Our offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 in observance of Christmas Day. Happy Holidays from the Fulton Family.A message from The CEO:
The tragic and heartbreaking killing of George Floyd, a black man who was senselessly murdered by a white police officer, has become a critical moment in all our lives.
Like many of you, I have been thinking about this appalling act, and why similar instances of racial discrimination and violence happen over and over in our nation.
It is so clear to me that many people in our community are hurting. Not only our black neighbors, but people of all races and ethnicities. We are truly shocked, sickened, and feeling powerless to stop the ugliness that is present in our world.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, in his now-famous “I Have a Dream” speech, said,“ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Powerful words. And yet now, as we approach the 57th anniversary of that moving speech, we seem farther than ever from achieving Dr. King’s goal.
As an organization and a member of our community, we don’t have all the answers. But we can take words and ideas and transform them into positive action. We will begin communicating the steps we’re taking to raise awareness about discrimination and provide resources to help us change lives for better.
I’m asking our team and community partners to join together on this issue; To choose speech over silence. To choose presence over absence. And to choose action over inertia by using whatever peaceful form they choose to help us all take deliberate steps to eradicate social injustice, racial inequity, and all forms of discrimination.
Let’s work together to embrace Dr. King’s teachings and put them to work, every day, in all areas of our lives. At Fulton Bank, we have always strived to create a positive change in the communities we serve, it is clear that we must do more. We will do more. That is our commitment.
